Sending Files to RP&G
The days of the floppy disks and CD's to transport files are thankfully over! Provided you have a broadband internet connection, there is almost no limit to the size of the digital file that you can send to us from your desktop.
However, it's important to choose the correct avenue and take a few precautions to insure they arrive and are usable when we receive them.
Method One : Email
Best for smaller files
For most files under 3MB, email is the easiest and fastest choice. Create an email to us, please put ARTWORK FOR NEW ORDER or something similar in the subject line, then depending on your email application you can either use the menu/attachments/browse to find your file on your system and attach it or some email applications allow you to simple drag and drop your file into the body of the email to attach it. Once the file is attached, process and send like any other email.
If you are in doubt about how large your file is - please do not attempt to email it. Drop down to method two.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE CALL AND CONFIRM THAT YOUR EMAILED FILES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
Method Two: YouSendIt.com
YouSendIt.com is a simple to use File Transfer service that allows you send files up to 100MB for free. We recommend this service for sending large files to us or anyone else. Simply go to yousendit.com and follow the three or four steps to send an email, it couldn't be more simple (believe me, we've tried several online file transfer sites)
IMPORTANT - PLEASE CALL AND CONFIRM THAT YOUR EMAILED FILES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED.
WINZIP File compression and protection
A great way to compress file size and protect the files from being corrupted by certain types of mail servers (AOL and others) is to ZIP the file. A Zip file is sometimes called an "archive" file. The Zip file itself is really just a container... it holds the real files inside it. The purpose behind the Zip file is transportation and storage. The Zip file acts like a ziploc sandwich bag - it holds contents inside for easy transporting and storage.
To create a new Zip file, open Win Zip in the Win Zip Wizard mode. (If the Win Zip Wizard does not open by default, just click the Wizard button in the toolbar.) You will be asked "What do you want to do?" Simply select "Create a new Zip file" and click Next. The Win Zip Wizard will guide you through the entire process.
If you do not have Win Zip installed go here www.winzip.com to download a trial copy.
Mac users have a zip utility built right into the OS, simple select the file or folder you want to zip, go to the Finder file menu and choose "Archive file" or "Compress" depending on your version of OS X.
No matter which method you choose to send your file, we recommend zipping your files both for speed of transfer and protection of the files.
Feel free to put in screen shots, edit copy for clarity and grammar.
